考慮到男性受MPB影響的比例之高,分佈於一般人口之間,MPB增加的危險同等於受影響的近親數量增加,和受任一方或雙方受影響父母遺傳的高危險,可以協助強烈的辯論,對微效基因遺傳有利。
這似乎有點諷刺,雖然關於MPB的知識已累積了數十年之久,但是我們仍然不知道真正的MPB基因遺傳問題。我們知道基因是正染色體(不是X或Y染色體)顯性(隱性的相反)和易變的遺傳外顯率(不會影響同對父母的兄弟姊妹達到同樣的程度)。
